These key chains are beaded by women in Santiago Atitlan and other villages around Lake Atitlan and Sololá. They can thread the beads at unvelievable speed and accuracy while carrying on a conversation! Like all artisans in Guatemala, they teach their children the art, and thereby pass culture to future generations. Children in the highlands are busy. They attend school, study and play, but also learn the family business.
